TheraOftal Osmo

Hyperosmotic Ophthalmic Drops

Hyperosmotic ophthalmic solution based on a high concentration of mannitol able to restore the osmotic balance of the cornea by removing the excess liquid and thus supporting the recovery of visual function.

It thus supports the treatment of corneal edema and glaucoma.

The osmolarity of the product exceeds 1000 mOsm / I in order to make the solution hypertonic and therefore able to recall water from the cornea and ocular tissues by osmosis.

Very well tolerated by animals.

THERAOFTAL OSMO is an excellent adjunct to the medical treatment of:

  • Corneal edema due to endothelial degeneration in older dogs
  • Post-operative cataract treatment
  • Adjuvant treatment of glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye condition characterized by an increase in intraocular pressure, caused by obstruction of aqueous humor outflow pathways that, in normal subjects, is produced and continuously drained, maintaining balance in the values of the intraocular pressure.
The obstruction can be caused by a congenital defect (primary open-angle glaucoma, narrow / closed glaucoma or goniodisgenesis) or by any other intraocular pathology (secondary glaucoma).
Many cases of primary glaucoma are considered hereditary and caused by abnormalities of the structures used for draining the aqueous humor, in particular the iridocorneal angle, which extends from the base of the iris to the periphery of the cornea and is composed of the combed ligaments.
Glaucoma in cats tends to have more subtle signs than dogs .
Although visual function can be maintained despite high blood pressure, many cats are not available for frequent topical medication but it is essential for maintaining an acceptable intraocular pressure and, in any case, therapy must be maintained for life.
Glaucoma is a serious and progressive disease that causes pain and total loss of vision.
The purpose of therapy is to maintain the patient's visual status for as long as possible and to reduce the pain caused by the increase in intraocular pressure .
