Dosage
ACICLOVIR ALTER cream should be applied 5 times a day at intervals of approximately 4 hours. ACICLOVIR ALTER cream should be applied to the lesions or areas where they are developing as early as possible after the infection begins. It is particularly important to start the treatment of recurrent episodes during the phase in which the symptoms that precede the onset of the pathological condition (prodrome) are present or at the first appearance of the lesions. Treatment should continue for at least 5 days and up to a maximum of 10 if there is no healing.
Warnings and Precautions
The product is not for ophthalmic use, nor is it recommended for application on the mucous membranes of the mouth and vagina. Animal studies indicate that the application of Aciclovir cream in the vagina can cause reversible irritation. The use of the product, especially if prolonged, can give rise to sensitization phenomena, where this happens it is necessary to stop the treatment and consult the attending physician. The product contains para-hydroxy-benzoates which can cause allergic reactions, generally of the delayed type.
Interactions
Probenicid prolongs the residence time of Aciclovir in the blood when the latter is administered systemically. Clinical experience has revealed no interactions with other drugs.
Side effects
Adverse effects may sometimes occur shortly after applying the cream, transient burning or pain. Redness or moderate dryness and peeling of the skin were observed in a small percentage of cases.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Since clinical data on the administration of Aciclovir cream during pregnancy are limited, during this period the drug should only be used in case of absolute necessity under the direct supervision of the physician (see section 5.3).
