Active principles
100 ml of solution contain. Active ingredients: N – methylbenzoquinoline methyl sulfate 0.300 g, tonzilamine hydrochloride 0.100 g. For the full list of excipients, see section 6.1
Excipients
Sodium chloride, sodium borate, carboxymethylcellulose, p-oxybenzoic esters, purified water.
Therapeutic indications
Prevents professional and occasional irritation and photophthalmic lesions. Therefore, its use is suitable for all those (brazers, sportsmen, etc.) who are subjected to prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays and very intense lights. It decreases the irritation phenomena of light diffraction in contact lens wearers. It is indicated as a curative in all affections in which the symptom dominates photophobia, actinic, electrical ophthalmias, keratitis, iritis.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients listed in section 6.1. Children under the age of three. People with narrow-angle glaucoma and other serious eye diseases. Patients on antidepressant drug therapy.
Dosage
Instill a drop twice, five minutes apart, before exposure to too intense lights (ultra-violet rays, intense sun, strong artificial lights). Repeat the instillation after about three hours if exposure continues. For contact lens wearers, one drop three times a day. In case of strong photophobia, instillation can also be practiced every two hours.
Warnings and Precautions
If symptoms persist or worsen after a short period of treatment, consult your doctor; in any case, the product must not be used for more than 7 consecutive days, given the possibility that, otherwise, undesirable effects, even of a certain severity, may occur. Infections, pus, foreign bodies in the eye, mechanical, chemical, heat damage require the attention of the doctor. Although the product has poor systemic absorption, it should be used with caution in patients suffering from hypertension, hyperthyroidism, cardiac disorders and hyperglycemia (diabetes) and in subjects undergoing treatment with antidepressant drugs. The medicine, if accidentally ingested or if used for a long time in excessive doses, can cause toxic phenomena. The medicinal product should be stored out of the sight and reach of children as accidental ingestion can cause deep sedation. This medicinal product contains para-oxybenzoic esters which may cause allergic reactions (including delayed). Pediatric population The eye drops should not be used in children under three years of age.
Interactions
No particular interactions or incompatibilities with other ophthalmic medicines are known. Do not use ASCOTODIN simultaneously with antidepressant drug therapy (see section 4.3).
Side effects
The use of the drug can sometimes lead to pupillary dilation, systemic absorption effects (hypertension, heart disease, hyperglycaemia), increased intraocular pressure, nausea, headache. Sensitization phenomena may rarely occur. In this case, the treatment must be interrupted and the doctor consulted so that, if necessary, appropriate therapy can be instituted. Reporting of suspected adverse reactions Reporting suspected adverse reactions that occur after authorization of the medicinal product is important, as it allows continuous monitoring of the benefit / risk ratio of the medicinal product. Healthcare professionals are asked to report any suspected adverse reactions via the national reporting system at www.agenziafarmaco.gov.it/it/responsabili.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
There are no known contraindications.
