What is clotrimazole for?
Clotrimazole is useful for mycosis of the skin and skin folds, such as pityriasis versicolor, skin candidiasis, tinea pedis or athlete's foot, tinea corporis. Topical antifungals.
Posology for Clotrimazole
The medicine should be applied in small quantities 2-3 times a day in correspondence of the affected area, rubbing lightly, after having thoroughly washed and dried the part. Half a cm of cream is enough to treat a surface the size of a hand. The drug is especially indicated for the treatment of skin and light areas (hairless). Generally, for the disappearance of the manifestations, a period of treatment without interruption of three to four weeks is sufficient. In order to consolidate the therapeutic results obtained and avoid reinfections, it is advisable to continue therapy with the product for at least 2 weeks after the disappearance of the manifestations.

Warnings for the use of Clotrimazole
Avoid contact with eyes. Do not swallow. The use, especially if prolonged, of products for topical use can give rise to sensitization phenomena. In case of hypersensitivity reactions it is necessary to interrupt the treatment and institute a suitable therapy. In diaper dermatitis, is the use of diapers with an "occlusive" effect not recommended? after applying the cream. In case of relapse, consult your doctor. To avoid relapses, very common in mycosis, it is good to inform the patient that he must observe some elementary hygiene rules: frequent change of underwear; towels and their chemical or thermal disinfection; avoid promiscuity of clothes and linen. The medicine contains cetystearyl alcohol, which can 'cause local skin reactions (eg: contact dermatitis).
Clotrimazole in Pregnancy and Lactation
No human studies have been conducted on the effects of clotrimazole on fertility '; however, animal studies have shown no effects of the drug on fertility. There is a limited amount of data on the use of clotrimazole in pregnancy. Animal studies do not show any direct or indirect harmful effects in terms of reproductive toxicity. As a precautionary measure, the use of clotrimazole in the first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided. Available pharmacodynamic / toxicological data in animals have demonstrated secretion of clotrimazole / metabolites in milk. Breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment with clotrimazole.
