They use a small amount of blood (0.6 µL) which is automatically aspirated by capillarity within the reactive end of the strip: after a 5-second countdown, the glucose concentration present in the blood sample automatically appears on the display. Glucose in the blood sample reacts with FAD glucose dehydrogenase (FAD-GDH) and the mediator, generating a flux of electrons that produces a current proportional to the concentration of glucose in the sample. CONTOUR NEXT strips allow the determination of glucose in both capillary whole blood and venous blood.
