What is it for
Friliver is a food for special medical purposes indicated for the diet of subjects with hepatic insufficiency.
Preparation based on branched chain amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, valine. In normal subjects the ratio between branched chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine) and aromatic neutral amino acids (phenylalanine, tyrosine) is between 3.0 and 3.5. In patients with impaired liver function, this ratio is lower as the balance between the amino acids of the two categories tends to shift towards that of the aromatic neutral amino acids. In these cases, dietary supplementation with Friliver is justified.
This product, taken by mouth, is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Already after 10 minutes the blood levels of the three amino acids significantly increase compared to the basal ones and remain elevated for several hours (six, seven times the basal levels for 2-3 hours).
In this way the balance of amino acids is partially or totally restored. Friliver, at the recommended doses, is well tolerated even for long periods of administration (5-6 months).
