Gaspan Schwabe Phytotherapeutic Medicament

Gaspan is a herbal medicine and contains a blend of peppermint oil and cumin oil. Gaspan is used in cases of bloating, a feeling of tightness and abdominal fullness with mild cramps. The capsules are coated with a gastro-resistant protective film, which prevents the premature release of peppermint oil or cumin oil in the stomach.

What must also be taken into account during treatment?

Take the capsules until symptoms improve. Gastrointestinal disturbances can be signs of illnesses that require medical examination and treatment. Therefore, in case of ailments lasting more than 1 week or periodically recurring, the treatment should not be carried out without the advice of the doctor.

When can you not take Gaspan and when does it require caution?

• In case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one of the other components
• In the presence of liver disease, gallstones and inflammatory diseases of the biliary tract (cholangitis) or other diseases of the biliary tract
• In patients with insufficient amount of acid in the gastric juice (achlorhydria)
• Gaspan should not be used in children under 12 years of age.

This medicine contains sorbitol. If you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars, ask your doctor for advice before taking Gaspan.

Can Gaspan be taken while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Safety during pregnancy and lactation has not been sufficiently studied. Consequently, use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.

How to use Gaspan?

Adults and adolescents from 12 years of age take 1 capsule 2 times a day, without chewing it, with plenty of liquids (eg 1 glass of water) and at least 30 minutes before a meal, possibly in the morning and at noon. You can also take the capsules without having a meal afterwards.

Gaspan should not be used in children under 12 years of age.

The capsules should be swallowed whole, i.e. not damaged or chewed, so that the active ingredient is not released too soon. The early release of the active ingredient can cause local irritation of the mouth and esophagus.

To prevent premature dissolution of the gastro-resistant coating, Gaspan is taken

• At least 30 minutes before meals,
• At least one hour before or after the use of other medicines used to reduce the production of stomach acids.

Follow the dosage indicated in the package leaflet or prescribed by your doctor. If you think the action of the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Gaspan have?

Gastrointestinal disturbances such as belching, heartburn, nausea, vomiting or anal itching may occur. In addition, allergic reactions can occur. Their frequency is unknown. If signs of an allergic reaction appear, discontinue Gaspan and seek medical attention.

If you notice any side effects, please contact your doctor, pharmacist or druggist, especially if they are side effects not described in this leaflet.

Taking up to 3 capsules as a single dose or up to 8 capsules per day does not usually cause overdose symptoms. After taking large quantities, side effects can be more intense. In this case, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a doctor immediately. In the event of an overdose, vomiting should never be induced and milk or alcohol should not be consumed.
