WHERE DO THESE PHENOMENA ORIGINATE?
Vomiting is a reflex act in which the stimulus can originate in various areas of the body:
- from the brain (cerebral cortex), which can be stimulated for example through tastes, smells, memories, emotions, images
- from the ear (vestibular apparatus), which mainly transmits information relating to the position of the body in relation to space
- from different parts of the digestive system (throat, stomach, intestines)
All these stimuli reach a specific portion of the brain, called the "Vomiting Center" responsible for the response that causes vomiting.
