What it is and what it is used for

Sodium Chloride DIACO is indicated for the reintegration of fluids and sodium chloride.
Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.
What you need to know before taking the medicine
Do not use Sodium Chloride DIACO
- If you are allergic to sodium chloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- If you have increased sodium levels in your blood (hypernatremia).
- If you have an accumulation of liquids and salts in the body (hydro-saline plethora).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking Sodium Chloride DIACO.
Sodium salts should be administered to you with caution if you suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure), heart failure, peripheral edema (excessive accumulation of fluids in one area of the body) or lungs, reduced kidney function, pre-eclampsia (a syndrome characterized from edema) proteinuria (presence of proteins in the urine), and hypertension in pregnancy, or other conditions associated with sodium retention (see paragraph "Other medicines and Sodium Chloride DIACO").
Solutions with concentrations higher than 0.9% (hypertonic solutions) must be used with caution, at a controlled infusion rate for administration into a vein, and only in cases where they are specifically prescribed.
Use this medicine with great caution if you suffer from congestive heart failure (reduced heart function), severe renal failure and in clinical states where there is edema with salt retention, if you are being treated with corticosteroids or corticotropin (cortisonic) drugs. Continuous administration without the addition of potassium can cause hypokalemia, i.e. a decrease in the concentration of potassium in the blood.
During the infusion it is good practice to monitor fluid balance, electrolytes, plasma osmolarity and acid-base balance.
The solution must be clear, colorless without visible particles.
Use this medicine immediately after opening the container.
The container is used for a single, uninterrupted administration and any residue cannot be used.
Children
Use this medicine with caution in children.
Possible side effects

Below are the side effects of sodium chloride. There is insufficient data to establish the frequency of the individual effects listed.
Disorders of water and electrolyte balance
- Hypernatremia, hypervolemia, plasma hypoosmolarity (for 0.45% solutions), hyperchloremia (which can cause a loss of bicarbonates with consequent acidosis, i.e. increased acidity of the blood).
Nervous system disorders
- Headache, dizziness, restlessness, fever, irritability, weakness, muscle stiffness, convulsions, coma, death.
Psychiatric disorders
- Drowsiness, confusional states.
Respiratory, thoracic and mediastinal disorders
- Dyspnea (difficulty in breathing), respiratory arrest.
Gastrointestinal disorders
- Thirst, reduced salivation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
Cardiac diseases
- Tachycardia (increased heart rate).
Eye pathologies
- Reduced tearing.
Renal and urinary disorders
- Kidney failure.
Vascular pathologies
- Hypotension, hypertension, pulmonary and peripheral edema.
General disorders and administration site conditions
- Infection at the infusion site (where the drip was applied), local pain or reaction, venous irritation, thrombosis (clot formation inside the blood vessels), or venous phlebitis (inflammation of the veins) extending from the infusion site , extravasation (leakage of fluid from the vein into surrounding tissues)
