SODIUM MONICO CHLORIDE 0.9% - Solvent for parenteral use

Preparation of injectable preparations.

Contraindications

Hypernatremia. Hydrosalilne Plethore. For contraindications, please refer also to the SmPC relating to the medicinal product you intend to administer.

Dosage

Use for extemporaneous solutions, dilutions or suspensions of injectable medicines or other sterile preparations. Choose the volume to be used based on the dilution needs of the injectable preparation.

storage

Do not freeze or refrigerate. KEEP THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT OUT OF THE REACH AND SIGHT OF CHILDREN.

Warnings

Sodium salts should be administered with caution in patients with hypertension, heart failure, peripheral or pulmonary edema, impaired renal function, preeclampsia or other conditions associated with sodium retention (see Section 4.5). The solution should be clear, colorless and free from visible particles. Use immediately after opening the container and make sure that the preparation takes place in the shortest possible time under conditions and according to procedures that preserve the sterility of the solution as much as possible. Any remaining medicine cannot be used and must be discarded.

Interactions

Corticosteroids are associated with sodium and water retention, resulting in edema and hypertension: therefore, caution should be exercised in concomitant administration of sodium salts and corticosteroids (see Section 4.4). Although Sodium Chloride is compatible with a large number of medicines, please refer to the SmPC relating to the medicine you intend to administer, in order to verify its compatibility.

Side effects

Undesirable effects following the administration of Sodium Chloride mainly refer to disturbances in the electrolyte balance (hypernatremia, hyperchloraemia, hypervolemia) and problems related to the administration site (infection at the infusion site, pain or local reaction, venous irritation, thrombosis or venous phlebitis extending from the infusion site, extravasation). For side effects, please also refer to the SmPC relating to the drug you intend to administer.

Overdose

The administration of excessive doses of sodium chloride solutions can lead, depending on the clinical condition of the patient, to hypernatremia, hyperchloremia and / or hypervolemia. For overdose, please refer to the SmPC relating to the drug you intend to administer.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Although no effects on the development of the fetus have been shown, the drug should only be administered in case of real need and only after evaluating the risk / benefit ratio. The medicine is compatible with breastfeeding.
